Ford Motor Company’s Supplier Diversity Development (SDD) Program was started in 1978. Ford recognized that it had a social responsibility to provide opportunity to minority individuals and their communities. When Ford started this program there were few minority owned and operated companies with the capabilities to provide the goods and services purchased by Ford and other automotive manufacturers. At the request of Henry Ford II, a program was designed to identify high potential minority business enterprises and assist them in growing their companies to competitive positions in our industry. At Ford Motor Company, our diverse program is inclusive of, but not limited to: businesses categorize as Minority-Owned (MBE), Women-Owned (WBE), Veteran-Owned (VBE), and Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVBE), Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDB), as well as businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business regions (HUB Zone).

MENTOR ME
Mentor Me is an exciting program for certified diverse businesses to advance and develop their business through Senior Corporate Executive mentoring. Through Mentor Me, diverse businesses will have the opportunity to discuss and receive feedback on their business in addition to enhancing their leadership and communication skills.

In the program, high potential diverse suppliers will be partnered with a team of Senior Executives from Ford and/or partner organizations. The diverse business and corporate mentor team will assess the diverse business, evaluate real-time organization challenges/situations and discuss the future of the business.

SKILLS FOR LIFE
Supplier Skills for Life is a program where industry experts will discuss hot topics and share tools to help diverse businesses grow and develop. The program will include videos, frequently asked questions, checklists and other quick single-point lessons on topics of interest.

Ford is passionate about further education opportunities for its employees and the supply base; the Ford Supplier Diversity team will provide access to information and materials that will assist suppliers to maximize business opportunities. UNITIER – NEW TIER 2 SYSTEM!

We are happy to share with you that we are launching a new and improved Tier 2 diversity spend reporting system – UniTier.

Ford Motor Company led the way for this new system by provided the funding and project management to the Michigan Minority Supplier Development Council (MMSDC) to launch a system that would change the way corporations track, and supplier report Tier 2 diversity spend. Through UniTier, suppliers now have the ability to upload their diversity spend to multiple customers, simultaneously, through a single interface.

Program Expansion
Not only are we introducing a new Tier 2 system, but we have also expanded our program to include certifications from USBLN, WeConnect International, NGLCC and the Small Business Administration.

JOINT TECHNOLOGY FRAMEWORK (JTF)

Ford’s JTF program is an industry exclusive initiative that launched in 2008 for Ford’s certified M/W/VBEs. JTF represents Ford’s commitment to Go Further and enhance the technical capability and sustainability of diverse suppliers through the access to intellectual assets.

Intellectual assets can include the following –
  • Access to Ford patented ideas
  • Access to Ford processes
  • Support from Ford subject matter experts

The JTF project helps the supplier enhance their business model and brand image in the marketplace. Examples include: a new/unique product not currently offered by the supplier, a new manufacturing method not currently utilized by a supplier, and improving the method of executing designs and/or improving quality. Ford is working with 11 diverse suppliers on JTF projects.
